I am fascinated by what can exist between us as persons, and even more so between God and us. So here is a poetic mediation, titled “And Between Us the Magic” from my just published book, “Closer Than Your Own I. Meditations on Union with God.” (Available on Amazon).
And between us the magic
Showing up when we show up,
Meeting us as we meet each other,
A mystery changing colors
But always colorful;
A kaleidoscope shifting
As we move toward,
As we move with,
As we move in each other.
It is there in the silence
Between our words,
Hovering in our hearts;
Holding us together
In ways no one
But us can see and sense.
It may be named
But not captured;
It may be addressed
But not spoken;
It may give rise to love’s language,
But it remains the elusive composer.
You may call it Love
Or God or Spirit or the Unknown.
It is the boundless between us
Which draws us as lonely lovers
Into its spirit-field,
To know there the togetherness
Possible only in its kingdom
Of another time and space.
Gently, tenderly it binds us as one
Into the heart’s sacred sanctuary.
