The three greatest, most essential gifts of the Holy Spirit are “faith, hope and love.” So the Apostle Paul teaches, and so my own life demonstrates. Whenever I have been hurting for one or more of these gifts of God, my life has been in serious trouble. We may exist without them, but we cannot prosper spiritually and emotionally. Without faith, hope and love, the “cardinal virtues” or “gifts” of the Divine to the human spirit, we would persist like zombies, like walking dead. Faith provides us with a ground to stand on, love a reason to live for, and hope a vision to strive toward, while enjoying the process. Faith keeps us open, love keeps us present and hope keeps us willing to face tomorrow. Hope is the conviction of a better tomorrow, the promise of good yet to come. Hope says: “All will be well. The best is yet to be. Trust this and keep moving.”
